Last Wednesday night my wife and I got to the Franco American Heritage
Center in Lewiston Maine to see Dwayne Côté and Duane Andrews in concert.
Barb was a bit leery of taking an 8 hour car trip to attend one
performance but, after hearing the performance, all she could say was "Wonderful.
wonderful." and she agreed that the Dwayne Coté and Duane Andrews' show was
well worth the trip.to Lewiston.
.
The first half of the concert was mostly from their new CD (which I
bought). If you have read the reviews about the CD, you'll know that it was
a fine first half.. At the intermission, Phill McIntyre announced to the
audience that he believed we would be even more excited by the last half of
the show. As far as Barb and I were concerned, he was right.
In there second half of the concert, Dwayne and Duane performed an
eclectic group of selections in response to requests from the audience. The
complete concert was fantastic, both men are top notch musicians. I'm a bit
of a fiddle bigot and Dwayne's Côté playing amazes me. He is able to do
stuff with his violin that I haven't heard others do, and it all sounds sweet.
I'm sorry I don't remember the titles of most of the pieces played, but
I know they did some Jerry Holland ("My Cape Breton Home"?) as well as
"Tullochgorum". It was all fine music and I think that Dwayne's fiddle is one
of the sweetest.
Sadly for the performers and Phil, the audience was quite small but they
were very appreciative and I'm sure they could have listened to the great
sounds for a few more hours.
Phil said he's going to try to get Dwayne and Duane together again to
play Lewiston. If he puts that show together, Barb and I will certainly take
to the trip to Maine to hear it.
I would like to thank Phill for bringing all of the fine Cape Breton
music to within a days drive for us here in upstate New York.. He is doing a
great job.
