Highland Guitar Society: In memory of Don Miller

Hi everybody...I have a few reasons for sending this message to all of you.

First of all, the Highland Guitar Society would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family of Don Miller of Afton, Antigonish County, a regular face at our Judique jam sessions who passed away earlier this week.

Well into his 80s, Don rarely missed a Guitar Society session and was also frequently seen at many other local variety concerts and ceilidhs, sharing his favourite Wilf Carter songs as well as delightful original material written over the course of his lifetime. We will miss his deep, booming voice and his passion for all things musical.

We debated cancelling this month's Guitar Society session (slated for this Sunday, March 8), but after board members of the Highland Guitar Society had a chance to talk it over, we have agreed that Don would have wanted us to get together with friends, take out our guitars and sing our favourite songs. 

So we will dedicate this Sunday afternoon's jam session to our dear friend Don Miller, and we invite Don's friends and fellow musicians - and also those who did not know him - to join us for an afternoon of music, memories, and camaraderie, in the true Don Miller spirit.

The jam session runs from 2-5 p.m. Sunday afternoon, March 8 at the Judique Community Centre. Admission is $5.00 for audience members and, as usual, musicians get in free. A light lunch will be served midway through the afternoon. Guitarists, singers, instrumentalists and music lovers of all ages, genres and skill levels are welcome.
