I would have met Jerry for the first time at about the same time as
Marcellin did (likely on that particular trip to Cape Breton). He played in
the outdoor concert that was held in Creignish at that time. The parish
priest in Creignish, Fr. Donald Rankin was a BIG music fan and was quite
impressed with Jerry's playing. Jerry family were friends with two of Fr.
Rankin's sisters who were living in the Boston area, and they arranged for
him to play. He was impressive then, and he continued to be impressive in
his playing right up to the end.
Rest in peace.

Subject: Sad News Jerry Holland)
Let me add my names to those who offer their condolences to Jerry Holland's
family who passed away at age 54 last Night. My first recollection of Jerry
was when he arrived at an afternoon party at the home of Gabe Arsenault in
Belle Cote who was home on vacation from Waltham, Massachusetts. Jerry,
also, was home on vacation from Massachusetts and he and Gabe were good
buddies in Mass.. Gabe was pretty proud to show us his American friend.
Being the only guitar player there, I was pleased to chord for Jerry but
that turned into awe when I saw him stepdancing to his own fiddle playing
without missing a note or a step. That would have been in the mid '60's and
Jerry would have been around12-13 at the time. Later, as time moved on and
Jerry moved to what he called HOME (being Cape Breton) as an adult, he did
put on some weight. Often at concerts when he would be playing the fiddle,
someone would yell out " Give us a step too", Jerry would say with a smile
after he had finished "Oh, I used to do that 50 pounds ago".
R.I.P.
