So, the customs officials actually advised you to LIE, in future,
rather than tell them the truth about your plans while in the United
States!?! I almost fell off my chair when I read that! The security
folks apparently didn't consider the fact that Sedona is basically
empty of people, and that terrorists don't go places where there's no
one to terrorize. But it's just too much to hear that they told you,
"Next time, just SAY you're going to do this, instead of that...."
Yes, they did (in in quite a nice friendly way, too) .. isn't that a riot?
I have to go to California next week .. maybe I'll just give them (Gov.) Arnold's address, say we're going to hang out for a few days before I head off to see Steinbeck on Cannery Row, maybe even drop in on Clint in Carmel ... as long as I'm not carrying a suspicious-looking fiddle case I should be fine
Of course, it's not just the US security that worries about these things - I got stopped once by the Ontario police and asked about what was in my piano case while playing at a folk & traditional music festival .. they said, jokingly, that it looked 'suspicious' .. but just why they thought I might be lugging a body bag around in broad daylight is beyond me .... must have been a slow day on the security beat ..
