The Stan Rogers Folk Festival announces exciting
line up of performers for 13th annual event, July 3 to 5
( Canso , NS )
- The 2009 Stan Rogers Folk Festival, an award-winning festival of songwriters,
is once again set to showcase a stellar line up of international, national and
regional talent. This year’s headliners include legendary
“American Pie” songwriter and national Academy of Popular Music Songwriters ’ Hall of Fame inducteeDon McLean, Canadian Country Music Award
winner Corb Lund, and JUNO
Award-winning songstress Sarah Harmer.
The renowned three-day event takes place in Canso , Nova Scotia
from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 5.

“When we started the
festival I always dreamed that someday we would be able to present the
songwriting legends of our generation. It’s really come true with
artists like Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, Richie Havens and now Don
McLean,” said artistic director Troy Greencorn .
“Besides penning the iconic American Pie there’s so many other
hits, songs like “Crying,” “Castles in the Air,”
“Vincent,” “And I Love You So” and
“Everyday”. Heck my wedding waltz was “To Have and to
Hold” a lesser known Don McLean gem.”
StanFest is a
celebration of musical talent honouring one of Canada ’s most prolific
songwriters, Stan Rogers. The weekend-long musical adventure, features a
variety of genres including folk, country, jazz, swing, blues, rag, gospel,
pop, rock, bluegrass and world music and has won the East Coast Music Award for Event of the Year three times
(2002-2004).
During each day of
the festival, six daytime stages operate concurrently from 11 a.m. to 6
p.m. The evening stage begins at 7 p.m. and stretches into the wee hours.
Thousands camp in on-site and nearby campgrounds.
Advance
tickets are now on sale. Weekend passes are $80, Friday tickets
are $32, Saturday tickets are $36 and Sunday tickets are $36 (plus tax).

credit cards are accepted and services charges apply.
Campsites are available via the
festival office. All campgrounds are open at 12 noon on Thursday, July 2
and close at 12 noon on Monday, July 6. Thursday night accommodations range
from $10 to $15 (plus tax) and weekend accommodations are $45 for tents and $60
for RVs (plus tax).
